A technology choice is useful when it helps people complete the work and gives the operating team a service it can maintain. Britixo evaluates modern frameworks against the application, its data and the environment around it.
01 · Architecture and modern technologies
Identify user groups, important transactions, data ownership, integration boundaries and expected demand. Then consider deployment, identity, observability and failure handling. These decisions shape the system more than a long list of programming languages.
A well-structured application may be simpler to operate than many independently deployed services. Separate services can be useful where boundaries, scaling needs or team responsibilities justify them. We document the reasons for the chosen structure and the circumstances that would make the decision worth revisiting.
02 · Architecture and modern technologies
Britixo’s technology catalogue includes React, Next.js, Vue, Angular and TypeScript for web interfaces, alongside Node.js, Python, PHP/Laravel, .NET and Java/Spring Boot capabilities. The selection depends on the experience, existing systems and skills needed to support it.
Rendering strategy matters for public content as well as usability. A framework can support static, server-rendered and interactive pages within the same product; the appropriate mix follows the route’s purpose. The React framework guidance explains these options. An internal application has different discovery requirements from a public service page.
03 · Architecture and modern technologies
Choose data storage around relationships, transactions, reporting and access patterns. PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQL Server are relevant relational options in the Britixo catalogue; other stores or caching layers need a specific reason and operating plan. A cache should not quietly become the only record of an important business transaction.
APIs need clear contracts, permissions and behaviour when a dependency is slow or unavailable. Mobile work adds questions about connectivity, device capabilities and interrupted tasks. Flutter, React Native and native development can be considered against those needs, rather than assuming every project requires a separate mobile app.
04 · Architecture and modern technologies
The deployment environment may use Britixo-managed UK infrastructure, a public cloud or an existing customer estate. Containers, automated delivery pipelines and infrastructure-as-code can make changes more consistent when the team has a reason to use and maintain them. Additional orchestration should solve an operating problem, not become the objective.
Supported versions, compatibility and dependency lifecycles are reviewed for the proposed release. “Latest” does not automatically mean suitable for production. An upgrade plan should include regression checks, configuration changes and a clear owner. Explore Britixo’s technology capabilities alongside the hosting milestone.
05 · Architecture and modern technologies
AI can assist with finding information, drafting responses or classifying work where the result can be evaluated. Define the intended task, acceptable errors, source information and route to a person. Compare the proposed feature with a simpler search or rules-based process before introducing a model dependency.
Retrieval-augmented generation can supply relevant source material to a model, but retrieval quality and answer quality still require evaluation. Access controls must apply to the information retrieved, and an AI response should not automatically authorise a consequential action. Microsoft’s RAG design and evaluation guidance describes the design work involved. Britixo can scope RAG systems and other AI capabilities around an agreed use case.
06 · Architecture and modern technologies
Turn important security requirements into checks for identity, authorisation, input handling, data exposure and configuration. OWASP ASVS provides a basis for defining and verifying application security controls. Using a reference standard is not the same as claiming certification or immunity from vulnerabilities.
Agree an accessibility target and the manual and automated checks needed for the audience. The W3C WCAG guidance provides the relevant framework. Architecture, testing and release acceptance should keep these requirements visible throughout the project.
Useful answers
No. They are options with benefits, limitations and operating costs. The architecture should explain why a particular capability is needed and how it will be tested and maintained.
The assessment considers the current application, supported dependencies, team knowledge and integration requirements. The proposed scope identifies where the existing stack can be retained and where change is justified.
We review supported releases, compatibility and the needs of the application. Production suitability and maintainability matter more than a version number alone.
