What should I clarify before choosing managed or unmanaged VPS service?
Management scope should state who maintains the guest operating system, applications, monitoring and recovery arrangements. The word managed does not by itself define every responsibility, response time or included software licence.
Instructions
1. List the operational responsibilities
Identify who applies OS and application updates, monitors capacity, handles security incidents, renews certificates, manages firewall rules and tests recovery. Separate the provider’s physical platform duties from administration inside your VPS.
2. Review the selected Britixo service
Use My Account’s Hosting Solutions area to identify the exact VPS service and its agreed package. The order and invoice determine the commercial selection; ask support to clarify any operational item that is not stated.
3. Agree access and change boundaries
Confirm authorised administrator accounts, how changes are requested, support hours and the evidence required for incidents. If a third party manages an application, identify where responsibility passes between that party, your team and the VPS service provider. Keep the outcome in the service record.
Check the result
- Each recurring operational responsibility has an identified owner.
- The agreed management scope and any separately charged work are clear before relying on the service.
Troubleshooting
- You assumed application support was included
- Ask about that exact application and maintenance task; do not infer coverage from the VPS label.
- Several teams can change the server
- Agree change coordination and access ownership so one team does not undo another’s authorised work.
