VPS · Question & answer

Can I recover my VPS in another region?

Cross-region recovery requires more than an available VPS plan in another location. The recovery data or image must be accessible there, supported by the destination platform and accompanied by the application’s network, identity and dependency configuration.

Instructions

1. Confirm recovery-data portability

Ask whether snapshots or images can be copied or exported across the intended regions and whether every attached volume is included. Check access credentials and encryption-key availability under the scenario where the original region is unreachable.

2. Prepare the destination dependencies

Confirm compatible OS architecture, resources, licences, network policy, DNS, certificates, external-service allowlists and any data-location requirements. A public IP may not be portable across regions, so plan the endpoint change explicitly.

3. Exercise the plan in an isolated target

Restore or rebuild through the supported workflow and validate the application before a planned cutover. Measure actual recovery time and recovered data age. Keep duplicate scheduled tasks and outbound actions controlled while both locations exist.

Check the result

  • The destination can access and use the required recovery data and keys.
  • A planned test proves application recovery and the necessary endpoint changes within the agreed objectives.

Troubleshooting

The snapshot cannot move to the destination region
Use a supported export, application-level recovery or rebuild method instead of assuming an undocumented clone feature.
The restored application cannot reach an external system
Review region-dependent routes, source allowlists, credentials and service dependencies.
