Legacy Software Modernisation
Assess an existing application, reduce operational risk and plan a phased modernisation around the services people depend on.
01
Understand the current service
Begin with the users, business-critical workflows, data, integrations and support responsibilities. Identify which behaviour must remain stable and where the current system creates avoidable cost or risk. An undocumented dependency can matter more than the age of the programming language, so inspect representative workflows before choosing a replacement strategy.
02
Choose a proportionate change
Options can include improving the existing application, replacing a bounded component, introducing an API or migrating to a new platform. Compare the operational consequence of each option. Define acceptance scenarios, data reconciliation and a reversible release sequence before committing to a broad rewrite.
03
Move in reviewable stages
Keep the live service and the modernised component connected through explicit interfaces and ownership. Validate data and user journeys at each stage, then review monitoring and support readiness. A successful migration includes the records, documentation and operating knowledge needed to maintain the system after the delivery team moves on.
