Stage and review a reconciliation CSV
Prepare a CSV with date and amount columns.
Before you start
Prepare a CSV with date and amount columns. Use a reviewed transaction source and reconcile source counts before posting.
Follow these steps
- Include date and amount; add reference/description and credit/debit direction where possible.
- Keep the CSV at or below 5 MB and 5,000 transaction rows.
- Enter Source / bank label and choose Stage & suggest matches.
- Open the batch and inspect every suggested and unidentified transaction.
- Compare date, amount, direction, reference and property with the original source.
- Resolve invalid or missing rows before matching.
Check it worked
The staged batch contains the transactions you intend to review. Suggestions have not yet posted receipts or marked ledger entries paid.
If something does not look right
Rows with invalid dates, invalid amounts or zero/non-positive normalised amounts can be skipped while the total source row count still advances. Compare the displayed rows with the original CSV rather than accepting the batch total alone.
Questions and answers
What date format should I use?
Use an unambiguous ISO date, YYYY-MM-DD.
What happens to a negative amount?
Its absolute value is stored and direction defaults to debit unless a valid explicit credit/debit value is supplied.
How are suggestions chosen?
The matcher checks an amount within £0.01 among a bounded set of eligible entries. A property code in the reference raises confidence. A suggestion is not proof of the correct match.
