Update an appointment

Change permitted appointment details while keeping status, calendar, recurrence, reminders and participants consistent.

Feature pathAppointments > Open appointment > Edit
Before you beginThis guide follows the supplied Britixo Appointments & Scheduling module version 1.3.6. The relevant access is Appointments: Edit. A menu, button, provider, time slot or client action can remain hidden when the signed-in user lacks the required permission, the module setting is disabled, the related record is in an ineligible state, or availability validation rejects the request.

What this feature does

Change permitted appointment details while keeping status, calendar, recurrence, reminders and participants consistent. It uses Britixo's permission-aware appointment, availability, status and integration flow rather than an unconnected diary entry.

How the module flow works

The edit controller loads the existing record and requires Appointments Edit permission before accepting changes.

Updating date, time, provider, attendees or content can trigger calendar synchronisation and notification logic where configured.

Recurring parent records, externally requested reschedules and completed or cancelled states may require additional state-aware handling.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. Open the correct appointment detail page.
  2. Select Edit and review the current status and source.
  3. Change only the required fields.
  4. Recheck availability, timezone, reminders, attendees and calendar options.
  5. Save, reopen the record and verify any external calendar update.

Important fields and decisions

Editable fieldsSubject, description, timing, relationship, service, provider, attendees and supported options.
Calendar linkRemote event identifier used when updating Google or Outlook.
RecurrenceParent recurrence settings that may affect future generated records.
HistoryAudit context showing the change and responsible staff user.

What happens after completion

After this workflow completes, Britixo keeps the appointment and its supported relationships connected. Reopen the appointment and verify the saved status, date, timezone, customer or lead, service, provider, attendees, reminder state, calendar or meeting reference, invoice reference and history that apply to this feature. External email, SMS, Google, Microsoft or payment outcomes must be checked separately from the Britixo database save.

  • Open the saved appointment and confirm the final status and source.
  • Check the participant, provider, timing and timezone from the full detail page.
  • Review the relevant table filter, calendar, history, report or linked invoice instead of relying only on a success message.

Controls, checks and common mistakes

  • Do not edit a completed record merely to correct reporting without documenting the reason.
  • Changing a provider requires a fresh availability check.
  • Review notification side effects before saving a customer-facing change.
  • Use the least destructive correction and retain the appointment history when the booking existed operationally.
  • Never bypass a permission, availability, approval, client-access or verification control by changing an unrelated route or setting.
Scheduling and data safetyAppointment changes can notify customers, reserve provider time, update remote calendars, create meeting links or invoices and alter reports. Confirm the exact record, timezone, status and recipients before saving.
