Responsible operations / Britixo call centres

A stop request must reach the next dialling decision.

Screening is a workflow, not a one-off box on a spreadsheet. The campaign needs current checks, clear ownership and a reliable way to keep an objection from becoming another unwanted call.

A clear route forward

  1. Contact data
  2. Required checks
  3. Permitted calling record
Illustrative workflow. The people, systems and responsibilities are confirmed in your written service scope.

Understand the different sources of restriction

TPS and CTPS record general preferences about live marketing calls. Your own suppression records capture people or businesses who have objected directly to your marketing. ICO guidance says relevant registered numbers and previous objections must be respected; specific permission is needed for marketing calls to registered numbers.

For business campaigns, checking only one register can miss relevant numbers. B2B calling should consider both TPS and CTPS as appropriate. A purchased list or a previous commercial relationship does not automatically override a registration or an objection.

Give screening an operational owner

Agree who checks the data, which provider or process is used, how current checks must be and what evidence is retained. Provider costs and data preparation should be visible in the quotation. A claim that a list is compliant is not enough to establish that your specific campaign may call every record.

The calling dataset should distinguish blocked, permitted and unresolved records. An unresolved permission question should not silently become permission because the dialling session is due to start. Rechecks and newly received objections need a defined update path across lists, CRM records and any calling tools.

Capture objections in a way that survives handover

Agents need an obvious outcome for a stop request, along with instructions for its scope and routing. If the customer contacts your own staff instead, the update still needs to reach the active campaign. Agree how a duplicate record is prevented from reintroducing the same number.

An illustrative control could remove an objecting contact from the next call session and retain the minimum suppression information needed to honour the request. Deleting every trace without preserving the restriction can undermine that objective. The actual retention and lawful handling need agreement for the service; this guide is not a universal legal checklist for all campaign types.

Further guidance: ICO: complying with live marketing call rules. Campaign requirements should be assessed for the actual service. Reviewed 4 November 2026.

A few useful answers

Can I call every business number not on CTPS?

No. TPS registration, previous objections, personal-data rules and the specific campaign still need assessment.

Does deleting the contact solve an objection?

The workflow must continue to honour the objection. Appropriate minimal suppression information may be needed so a later import does not trigger another call.
