Before you start

Required access: Manage sales/use-tax source data. The module must be enabled and its installed version ready for your workspace. Select the intended taxpayer, authority and period before changing a record.

How to classify sales and calculate sales tax

  1. Choose Taxpayer, State, From and To; select Refresh source.
  2. Review Sales by state and Unclassified invoice lines. Select the correct category and Use rule, Taxable override or Exempt override, then Save.
  3. Under Transaction flags select the invoice and record marketplace sale/collection information and any supported state, city or ZIP override; Save flags.
  4. Record an Exemption certificate with taxpayer, customer, state, type, number and effective/expiry dates.
  5. Under Calculate & reconcile select taxpayer, state and period; choose Calculate sales tax and investigate unclassified or reconciliation blockers.

Controls and limits

  • Marketplace collection, exemption validity and locality matching affect the result and require evidence.
  • The calculation uses verified rules and taxpayer-scoped invoice lines; it does not file the sales tax return or assume every state/local tax family is implemented.

Check the result

Reopen the affected record and confirm the taxpayer, period, saved values and status. For external actions, inspect the actual authority acknowledgement or settlement evidence; a local saved or queued state is not acceptance.

If you cannot continue

Read the displayed validation or readiness message. Check the module version, role, source scope, authority, period and current approval evidence. If another person changed the record, refresh and review the current version. Give support the screen, error wording and correlation reference; keep passwords, one-time codes and tax identifiers out of public messages.
