Before you start

Required access: Manage tax settings; Manage HMRC connection. The module must be enabled and its installed version ready for your workspace. Select the intended taxpayer, authority and period before changing a record.

How to configure taxpayer profiles and HMRC access

  1. Choose Create another profile. Enter Profile / legal entity name and Entity type.
  2. Select Filing authority model, Approval policy and CRM client ownership. Set Accounting year end and Accounting class / legal-entity ledger scope.
  3. Enter the applicable VAT registration number, National Insurance number and Unique Taxpayer Reference; enable VAT/MTD VAT or MTD Income Tax as appropriate and save the profile.
  4. Use the profile’s taxpayer or agent connection action and complete consent on the official HMRC page. Return to the workspace and check the connection.
  5. Use Edit to change the profile. Disconnect taxpayer or Disconnect agent removes the corresponding local connection; use Open HMRC Manage authorised applications for HMRC-side revocation.

Controls and limits

  • Use whole-tenant ledger scope only for a single tax entity. Linking a CRM client controls customer Tax Centre ownership.
  • Do not share HMRC passwords with staff or enter them in a help-centre form. Reconnection and identity confirmation may be required for sensitive actions.

Check the result

Reopen the affected record and confirm the taxpayer, period, saved values and status. For external actions, inspect the actual authority acknowledgement or settlement evidence; a local saved or queued state is not acceptance.

If you cannot continue

Read the displayed validation or readiness message. Check the module version, role, source scope, authority, period and current approval evidence. If another person changed the record, refresh and review the current version. Give support the screen, error wording and correlation reference; keep passwords, one-time codes and tax identifiers out of public messages.
