Before you start

Required access: Create tax adjustments; Prepare or View filing evidence for retrieval. The module must be enabled and its installed version ready for your workspace. Select the intended taxpayer, authority and period before changing a record.

How to record VAT adjustments and inspect filed returns

  1. Select the open Taxpayer / period, VAT box and Adjustment amount.
  2. Enter Source reference and Reason, then choose Record append-only adjustment.
  3. Prepare a new frozen return for the period and check that the adjustment is included.
  4. For a filed obligation select its authority and choose View filed HMRC return. Inspect the authoritative values and HMRC retrieval evidence.

Controls and limits

  • Adjustments are append-only evidence, not edits to a filed HMRC return. They enter the next snapshot.
  • Correct the source or prepare the applicable controlled amendment workflow; do not overwrite accepted evidence.

Check the result

Reopen the affected record and confirm the taxpayer, period, saved values and status. For external actions, inspect the actual authority acknowledgement or settlement evidence; a local saved or queued state is not acceptance.

If you cannot continue

Read the displayed validation or readiness message. Check the module version, role, source scope, authority, period and current approval evidence. If another person changed the record, refresh and review the current version. Give support the screen, error wording and correlation reference; keep passwords, one-time codes and tax identifiers out of public messages.
