VPS · Question & answer

What happens to my data when I reinstall a VPS?

Reinstalling normally replaces the operating-system installation and can erase existing data on the affected disk. The treatment of additional volumes and recovery points is platform-specific. Confirm the exact scope before submitting the operation.

Instructions

1. Identify all data and dependencies

Record which disks contain the OS, databases, uploads and application configuration. Determine the approved recovery source for anything that must be retained, and confirm that it is usable before replacement.

2. Review the supported Britixo operation

Open the selected VPS’s available Reinstall action. Confirm the server identifier, chosen OS image, affected data and displayed confirmation requirements. An attached ISO is a separate operation and does not by itself mean the server has been reinstalled.

3. Validate the fresh installation

Wait for the operation to finish in Activity. Verify the new guest OS, network allocation, authorised account and SSH host fingerprint through a trusted channel. Old host keys or passwords may no longer apply, and application data returns only through the intended recovery or redeployment process.

Check the result

  • The reinstalled OS and affected disks match the reviewed operation.
  • Authorised access works and any required data is restored and validated through the approved process.

Troubleshooting

You are unsure which volumes will be erased
Stop before confirmation and obtain the operation’s precise scope from support.
SSH warns that the host key changed
Verify the new fingerprint through the authenticated console before replacing the old local trust record.
